Cincinnati Welcomes New Familes!

The drive into downtown Cincinnati can be striking: As you approach from either the north or south, the highways rise and dip along the hilly terrain until suddenly you're there -- alongside the skyscrapers and stadiums and, most prominent of all, the wide Ohio River and its gleaming steel bridges.

This picturesque city nestled in the heartland has a mixture of Midwestern values and urban sensibilities. It's a city that's friendly yet sophisticated, serene yet saucy. Sometimes these personalities peacefully coexist and give the city a diverse, progressive flavor, just as its classic old buildings now share the landscape with fancy new constructions by internationally renowned architects such as Frank Gehry. At other times they uneasily rub shoulders and draw national attention: This was the city, after all, where obscenity battles were waged over the photographs of Robert Mapplethorpe and the publications of Larry Flynt. (Controversial talk-show host Jerry Springer was once mayor of the city.)

But it is this very diversity that makes Greater Cincinnati a worthy destination. For a smaller city (it's the third-largest city in Ohio), it has an impressive variety of museums, performing arts, galleries, fine dining, festivals, shopping and sports -- the Cincinnati Reds are the oldest professional baseball team in the U.S. All of this helps explain why more than 5 million people visit each year.

Explore a region where the glorious scenery is matched only by their personality of its people, the excitement of its big cities, and the friendliness and charm of its small towns.
